Who we are
Our organization, THE HOPE RELIEF AND ORPHANS CHILDREN VILLAGE ORGANIZATION, is located in Lugeye centre, Magu district in Mwanza Region. We are situated about 40 kilometers from Mwanza city center along Nyerere road to Musoma. We registered with the Magu District Council on May 13th, 2014, with registration No. MDC/CBO/629, and we started working immediately.
Our center provides care and accommodation for orphaned children from nearby villages who have lost their parents or guardians to HIV/AIDS. We aim to support these children with their education, health, and social needs.
The immediate target for this project, if it is funded, is orphaned and disabled children who are facing problems in their lives in our area, as well as improving community welfare services such as health and education. The contributions we receive have helped us overcome long-term obstacles in our day-to-day operations and in our efforts to help the community. Our center is situated in the Lake Victoria basin, where the community is involved in various activities such as agriculture, fishing, business, animal keeping, and civil service. Agriculture is a major activity, with farmers producing crops for food and for sale, including cotton, rice, sorghum, millet, maize, and cassava, as well as fruits such as oranges, watermelons, mangoes, and papayas, and vegetables such as cabbage and spinach.
.
Fishing is also a significant industry, with many people working as fishmongers and selling various species of fish such as sangara, tilapia, and furu, which are rich in protein and essential for good health. Health services are provided at the government health center called Lugeye, and the children at our organization also receive health services to keep their bodies healthy.
The commonly spoken language is Kiswahili, which is the national language, and English is spoken in special places such as the district, regional, and high courts where magistrates and judges are present. The mother tongue, Kisukuma, is also spoken by many people in the area.
Traditional culture is an important part of our community, and people enjoy the Bugobogobo dance conducted by Mwanalyaku, especially during the June to October season after the harvest. The common meal is stiff porridge made by mixing cassava and maize, and the community typically has two meals per day at lunch and dinner, with some having three meals per day depending on their economic position
